About Us

Our Story

I was in my mid-50s, sitting in a consultation for a hiatal hernia repair, when the surgeon explained that my insurance wouldn't cover the procedure unless I either gained or lost 30 pounds. I left his office with a meal plan in my hand — and started karate that same evening.

I had always been athletic — softball, ice skating, biking. But there was something different about the mat. The training. The stamina. The discipline. Within a year, I had lost the 30 pounds, had my surgery, and was back to training six weeks later. I went on to earn my second-degree black belt. It wasn't just about the weight. It was about proving to myself — at an age when most women are told to slow down — that I could still grow stronger.

A new karate school opened in our small town, and I started helping the instructor. While teaching the kids' classes, a few of the mothers watching from the sidelines began asking questions. Did I think they could do this? Were they too old to start? That night, five of them stepped onto the mat. Eventually, thirteen mothers were training alongside me. The running joke became, "Well, if Janice can do it, so can I." Handing out new belts to women who had once doubted themselves became one of the greatest rewards of my life.

After 38 years in California, my husband and I moved to Kentucky to be closer to our son's family. We now have nine grandchildren — seven of them nearby, five of them right on our property. We miss our two granddaughters still in California, but they're grown and living their best lives.

We could have called it retirement.

Instead, I started EarthWell Collective.

Because the same thing I saw on the karate mat was happening everywhere around me: women were being told to accept limitations that weren't necessarily true.

I've always been drawn to natural living, and my family is always wondering, "What is Grandma up to next?" But as I entered my own next chapter — the hormonal, physical, and emotional changes that come with midlife — I started watching friends struggle with sleep, mood, energy, and simply not feeling like themselves anymore. And I noticed something: the wellness world isn't really built for women 45+. It's built for everyone else.

EarthWell Collective is my answer to that. A brand built around women navigating midlife and beyond — with formulas, products, and guidance that respect what your body actually needs at this stage of life. No shortcuts. No fluff. No marketing tricks.

It's built on the principles I live by:

• Movement creates momentum
• Consistency over shortcuts
• Lead by example
• Small choices create big changes
• Upfront, Honest, and Transparent — always

Whether you're 45 and just noticing the changes, or 65 and wondering if it's too late to feel good in your body again — it's not.

I'm living proof.
